Te Waimate Mission

I stopped off at what I thought was a lovely church up high on a hill, only to find it was the Te Waimate Mission, moved there by Samuel Marsden.

Such a regal entrance

The schoolhouse

The entrance arch

The light was dedicated to a9 yr old boy who died

Out the front of the cemetery but no tree 😂

Beautiful gardens

And native trees

The lemon tree has an amazing smell. Very different to anything you can smell today

Back of the house

Old wood storage area

One of the rooms. I sneaked a pic through the window 😉

The church

A small grave marker in the cemetery

Some beautiful tributes to people

I loved this one

A little bit flash

The grave of Hone Heke...I think 🤔
